Ex-Security Officer Sues MGM Grand Detroit, Cites Disability Harassment and Wrongful Termination

A former security officer has filed a lawsuit against MGM Grand Detroit, claiming the casino engaged in a years-long pattern of disability-based harassment and ultimately terminated him under false pretenses. The plaintiff, who has cerebral palsy, alleges that his condition was repeatedly used as grounds for mistreatment by supervisors and colleagues.

The lawsuit contends that MGM Grand Detroit denied the officer reasonable accommodations during a critical internal investigation, despite his documented medical needs. According to the complaint, the casino then fabricated allegations to justify his firing, effectively punishing him for seeking workplace protections.

The plaintiff states that the harassment began shortly after he disclosed his disability and continued for several years, creating a hostile work environment. He asserts that management ignored his complaints and failed to take corrective action, in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Michigan state law.

Legal experts note that disability discrimination claims in the gaming industry are not uncommon, but cases involving alleged retaliation for requesting accommodations often hinge on documentation of the employer's knowledge and response. The lawsuit seeks damages for lost wages, emotional distress, and punitive relief.

MGM Grand Detroit has not yet filed a formal response to the lawsuit. The case is expected to proceed in federal court, where the plaintiff will need to demonstrate that his disability was a motivating factor in the adverse employment actions he describes.
