About
Belmont Park is a Thoroughbred horse racetrack in Elmont, New York, just east of the New York City line, owned and operated by the New York Racing Association. Opened on May 4, 1905, it hosts the Belmont Stakes, the third leg of the American Triple Crown. The 1.5-mile dirt main track, nicknamed Big Sandy, sits on a 430-acre racing, training and barn complex on the Hempstead Plains. The redeveloped Belmont Park is slated to reopen on September 18, 2026 with a modern 250,000-square-foot grandstand and clubhouse and added infield public access.
