Champ de Mars Racecourse in Port Louis is a thoroughbred horse race track and the oldest racecourse in the southern hemisphere, inaugurated on 25 June 1812 by The Mauritius Turf Club. The right-handed oval turf track measures roughly 1,298 metres in circumference with widths between 12 and 14 metres and an uphill home straight of 225 metres. The racing season runs from late March to early December. The 1981 reconstruction added a grandstand for 2,000 spectators.
