About

Clairwood Racecourse, known as the Garden Course, occupied 77 hectares of reclaimed marshland in the South Durban Basin in KwaZulu-Natal. The track originally opened in 1921, was redeveloped by the Natal Racecourse Development Fund in 1982 and acquired by Gold Circle in 1999, before being purchased by Capital Property Fund in 2012. The round course was a left-handed flat turf oval just over 1.5 miles in circumference, with a six-furlong straight joining at the top of the home straight. The final race meeting took place on 2 August 2014 and the site has since been redeveloped for industrial use.
