About
Fairview Racecourse is the only horse racing track in Port Elizabeth, located in the suburb of Greenbushes in the Eastern Cape, about 35 minutes from Port Elizabeth Airport. The Port Elizabeth Turf Club traces its origins to 1857 and the current Greenbushes course opened on 18 June 1977 under the renamed Fairview banner. The track is a near-oval circuit of around 2,700 metres with an 800 metre run-in and a mostly downhill straight course feeding into the home stretch. Live racing typically takes place on Friday afternoons and selected weekdays, with onsite restaurant, bar, tote and conference facilities, including the Algoa Cup as a feature event.
