About
Gillespie County Fairgrounds in Fredericksburg, Texas hosts a Class 3 horse-racing meet over four summer weekends, with thoroughbreds, quarter horses, futurities and trial races on a five-eighths-mile oval. The current track was built in 1976 although county horse racing dates back more than 130 years; the 3,200-seat grandstand still fills each summer. A separate simulcast facility at 35 Fair Drive is open Thursday-Sunday year-round for pari-mutuel wagering on horse and dog tracks across the country. Operations are licensed and regulated by the Texas Racing Commission.
