About
Northlands Park was the Alberta A-circuit horse racing track in Edmonton, founded in 1879 before the incorporation of the city of Edmonton or the province of Alberta. The 5/8-mile sand and clay track hosted spring and fall harness (Standardbred) meets and a thoroughbred meet from May/June to September/October, and from 1957 was the official home of the Canadian Derby. Northlands announced closure plans in 2016 to redevelop the land as an urban festival ground, and operations ended January 31, 2019. The successor venue, Century Mile Racetrack and Casino, opened April 1, 2019.
