About
Sandown Raceway is a former horse racing track in Sidney, British Columbia, on the Saanich Peninsula of Vancouver Island. Live horse racing started at Sandown in 1958, and as many as 90 harness and thoroughbred race days were held annually in the 1980s. The flagship track closed in 1992 and was briefly revived for limited harness racing, with the last meet occurring in 2008 with three days of live races. North Saanich council has considered the future redevelopment of the Sandown property, while former regulars founded the Sandown Racing Club to support horse ownership on Vancouver Island.
