About
Casino La Pergola is a landmark of French modernist architecture in Saint-Jean-de-Luz on the Atlantic coast of southwest France. Designed by architect Robert Mallet-Stevens in reinforced concrete after replacing the earlier project of architect William Marcel, the complex was completed in 1928 and originally combined a casino, a 150-room hotel, a cinema, a gallery of shops and a swimming pool. The Pergola opened to international acclaim that summer and was profoundly modified and elevated during 1950s renovations. The site sits on the seafront terrace overlooking the beach in the centre of the resort town.
