About
Grand Casino de Vichy was built in 1863 in the Beaux-Arts style and inaugurated on July 2, 1865, commissioned by Napoleon III in the Allier department. The complex was the first spa town casino to include a theater, with an Art Nouveau theater added in the early 20th century by architects Charles Le Coeur and Lucien Woog. The theater hall accommodates approximately 1,400 spectators and historically hosted the joint Chamber of Deputies and Senate session of July 10, 1940. Today the building is part of Vichys UNESCO World Heritage listing.
