About
The Centre Culturel Valery-Larbaud is an Art Deco cultural complex at 15 rue du Marechal Foch in Vichy, France, opened in 1917 as a theatre and brasserie called the Cafe de l Univers and renamed Petit Casino de Vichy in 1921. The current building was constructed in 1926 by architects Antoine Chanet and Jean Liogier and inaugurated as the Centre Culturel Valery-Larbaud on 25 June 1961, housing approximately 15,000 volumes from the Vichy-born writer Valery Larbaud acquired by the city in 1948. The Italian-style theatre seats 477 spectators and features a grand staircase illuminated by three Art Deco stained glass windows by Francis Chigot from 1929 representing Comedy, Tragedy and Music. The building was listed as a historical monument on 10 August 2000 and has been managed by Vichy Culture since 2019.
