About

Tigre Hotel was a historical land-based hotel and casino on the banks of the Luján River in Tigre Partido, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, inaugurated on 12 February 1890 and home to the country's first casino. It operated under the social and tourism conventions of the Belle Époque rather than a modern gaming licence, attracting Buenos Aires elite for dancing, dining, and gambling. A 1933 federal law banning gambling forced closure of the casino, and the building was demolished in 1940. The neighbouring Tigre Club building survives and now houses the Museo de Arte Tigre.
