Nebraska Voters Reject Online Sports Betting; In-Person Wagers Remain

Nebraska's sports betting landscape will remain unchanged after voters rejected two ballot measures during the 2026 midterm elections. The outcome means wagering stays limited to in-person bets at the state's licensed racetrack casinos.

On Election Day, Nov. 3, Nebraskans voted on Initiative Measures 440 and 441, both of which sought to expand sports betting options. The first measure proposed amending the Nebraska Constitution to permit online sports gambling. The second measure also failed, according to election results.

With both initiatives defeated, current law remains in effect, restricting all sports wagers to physical locations at licensed racetrack casinos. No online or mobile sports betting platforms will be authorized in the state as a result of the vote.

The rejection continues Nebraska's conservative approach to gambling expansion, following the state's earlier legalization of in-person sports betting at its racetrack venues. Advocates for online betting had hoped to modernize access, but voters opted to maintain the existing retail-only framework.

The practical impact is that bettors in Nebraska must continue visiting licensed racetrack casinos to place wagers. There is no immediate indication that another attempt to legalize online sports betting will be introduced in the next legislative session.
