Gibraltar Regulator Grants In-Principle Approval to WagerWire Operator Wire Markets

Wire Markets Ltd., the company behind the WagerWire brand, has secured an approval in principle from Gibraltar’s gambling regulator to operate a prediction market product. The regulatory nod moves the startup closer to launching its platform, which it hopes to have live by the start of the National Football League (NFL) season.

The Gibraltar-based firm is developing a prediction market where users can wager on outcomes of real-world events. The approval in principle is a preliminary step before a full license is granted, indicating that the company has met initial regulatory requirements.

Wire Markets will follow ADI PredictStreet, which in March became the first prediction market operator to be licensed in Gibraltar. That earlier approval signaled Gibraltar’s willingness to regulate this emerging sector alongside traditional sports betting and casino gaming.

Prediction markets have drawn increased attention from regulators globally, as they blur the line between gambling and financial speculation. Gibraltar’s approach provides a structured framework for operators to offer these products under its established licensing regime.

Wire Markets has not disclosed a specific launch date, but targeting the NFL season kickoff suggests a rollout in the late summer or early autumn. The company will need to finalize its platform and receive a full license before going live.
